Inner Harbour / Downtown. The scenic waterfront core surrounds the Empress, Parliament and museum, walkable to everything. It's the classic first-timer base, buzzing but never overwhelming. Good for: First-timers and sightseers.
Old Town. The historic brick district behind the harbour, home to Chinatown, boutiques and heritage buildings. Central and characterful, with great cafés and dining. Good for: History and food lovers.
James Bay. A quiet residential neighbourhood between downtown and the sea, near Beacon Hill Park and the Dallas Road cliffs. Walkable, calm and close to the ferry terminal. Good for: Calm stays and walkers.
Vic West / Songhees. Across the harbour by pedestrian ferry, with waterfront walkways and newer hotels facing the skyline. A slightly removed but scenic base. Good for: Waterfront views.
Oak Bay. A genteel seaside village a short drive from downtown, full of tea rooms, gardens and shoreline paths. Best for a refined, quieter stay with a car. Good for: Quiet elegance.
